• Why talk to the school counselor?


    ...just a few good reasons

    Here are a few reasons students at John Hill might want to talk to the School Counselor:

    “My best friend won’t talk to me and I don’t know what to do.”

    “Bob, Mike and I had a problem at recess. Can you help us work it out?”

    “My pet just died and I’m feeling really sad.”

    “I want to show you how well I did on my math test.”

    “I’m having one of those days and I just need a minute.”

    “I’m feeling overwhelmed with school and sports and I don’t know what to do.”

    “I have a problem and need some help figuring it out.”

    “Sam keeps calling me names and I don’t know what to do about it.”

    “I just wanted to say Hi.”

    Here are a few reasons parents at JHS might want to talk to the School Counselor:

    “My child is new here and I just wanted to introduce myself.”

    “We recently had a death in the family, and Cindy is having a hard time.”

    “Bob tells me that he is getting picked on at school. Can we meet to talk about

           this?”

    “I’m concerned because Allen keeps telling me that he doesn’t have any friends.

           Do you have any lunch groups?”

    “I am worried about Jill’s grades and her not wanting to do her homework.  Can I

           come in and sit with you and her teacher?”

    “Lisa keeps getting angry at home with her sister and we don’t know what to do.

           Can she work on her anger management with you?”

    Here are some reasons teachers or administrators at JHS might want to talk to the School Counselor:

    Sue is absent a lot and when she is here she is always coming in late.”

    “Jenny is a great kid, but she seems really shy and is having a hard time making

           friends.  I think she would benefit from participating in a lunch group.”

    “I am concerned about Bill’s grades. Could you talk with him about this?”

    “I noticed that the girl’s in my class are having some friendship issues. Could you

           do mediation with them?”

    “Jess is having a bad day and could use a minute.”

    “John and Jim had an issue on the playground and are having a hard time          

            resolving it on their own.  Could you meet with them and help them work it out?”

    “Sam is showing some bullying behaviors on the playground. Would meet with him

            and help him work on his behaviors?”
